The easiest way to megawatt your everyday look? It’s all in the eyes

Your eyes are the first thing people notice about you, and they could not be easier to dress up. A flick of eyeliner, a few lashings of mascara, a delicate wash of colour and voila! You’re transformed. The first step in adding an effortless dollop of oomph and drama to your look is to understand what you’re working with. Then comes the makeup wizardry. Let’s get started.
Are you Taylor Swift or Kate Moss?
Here’s a cool fact: for most people, the distance between the eyes is usually equal to the width of one eye. If the width is greater, you have wide-set eyes and close-set if it’s the width is lesser. For instance, Taylor Swift has closer-set eyes than Kate Moss. To create distance between your eyes, brighten the inner corners with an illuminating eyeshadow. Shades of brown, grey, blue and even brighter hues will look great on you. If you’re more in the Kate Moss zone, you can use a darker shade of eyeshadow in the crease and blend it in towards your nose to make your eyes appear closer. Use eyeliner across your lids in an even stroke to bring balance to the look.

Are you Blake Lively or Mila Kunis?
Which is to say, are your eyes prominent or deep-set? To know your type, feel under your lower lash line to see whether it feels slightly rounded or flat. To ‘wake up’ and lift deep-set eyes, use a light eyeshadow all over your eyelid and extend the crease colour up to the brow bone. To downplay prominent eyes, use soft, deeper, matte-finish products.

Are you Jennifer Lawrence or Angelina Jolie?
Non-hooded eyes allow the eyelid to show completely whereas in hooded eyes, the fleshy bit under the brow covers part or all of the eyelid, like Angelina Jolie’s. Hooded eyes are beautiful as they are, but if you wish to reduce their appearance, concentrate a darker coloured eyeshadow in the crease of the eyelid and brighten the inner corners with a highlighting shadow. Also remember to avoid blending the eyeshadow downwards – instead, place a tissue on the outer corner of your eye, and blend outwards for a ‘lifted’ look.
Are you Anne Hathaway or Kim Kardashian?
Droopy eyes have the outer corner of the eye sitting lower than the inner corner, like Anne Hathaway does. Kim Kardashian’s eyes are straighter in alignment. Droopy eyes are quite common and the best way to dress them is with lighter toned eyeshadows blended upwards and outwards. When lining the upper eyelid, either end the line where your eye naturally ends or create a winged look where the line moves up towards the eyebrows.
