GEM OF THE MONTH
Our fascination for the historical 'Regal Gemstone'
Popularly known as the Queen of Emeralds, Farah says "I am fascinated by the colour green because it reminds me of life. Emperor Nero used to say that one should look at the world through the green of the emerald because it is so refreshing to the eyes. The colour green draws me to it."
It is believed that the entire green color of nature is concentrated in the Emerald gemstone. The origin of the stone's meaning can be traced from the Sanskrit word Marakata, which means "the green of growing things". Its soothing energy provides healing to all levels of the being, bringing freshness and vitality to the spirit.
Farah emphasises that ''When I sketch designs from the natural world, I hope to translate onto paper and then in metal and stone its essential vitality. I love emeralds for their ability to evoke the freshness of spring. Nearly every green you see in nature can be found in an emerald, from the bright hue of young shoots to the velvet spread of lichen covering a tree's bark, to the verdant gloss of a stately sycamore''
